What is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu ?

In 1967, practitioners started the pioneering Federation of Jiu Jitsu in Brazil. The Federation managed competitions to test their self-defense skills. However, as the competition went on, Gracie Jiu Jitsu Basics were refocused on self-defense and on sport techniques and applications.
This technique is also known as the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is generally focused on grappling on full contact. Other than Helio and Carlos Gracie, other founders were Mitsuyo Maeda and Oswaldo Fadda.
The importance of survival and ways to do it has been the topic of many intellectual endeavors. What matters most is how it is done. High technology has introduced the most ingenious inventions but in finally analysis, it is the individual himself who is the source of his survival.  Acquiring the art of self defense is vital. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is your best option.

How it started:
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was founded by Helio Gracie. He studied the traditional Jiu Jitsu techniques with the help of his brother Carlos Gracie. Because of his fragility, he tried to revise the techniques into improved methods in which he believed were more appropriate to his smaller physique. Soon enough, he was able to successfully advance as he defeated numbers of larger and sturdier opponents. As a result, the technique spread vastly and was known to be the new version of traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu in Brazil, thus named Gracie Jiu Jitsu. The technique was derived from the Kodokan judo, which is a Japanese martial art.
In the 1914, Esai Maeda aka Conde Koma Maeda learned all about the Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, also called Judo. He later developed proficiency as a student of the Grand Master Kano at the Kodokan in Japan and eventually became champion of the martial arts. Maeda travelled around Brazil and befriended an influential businessman Gastao Gracie. To show gratitude for Gastao Gracie’s help, he taught him the traditional jiu-jitsu who passed it on from to his sons. His frail and weak son, Helio Gracie adopted the technique to strengthen his weak body and eventually modified most of the technique.

The Birth of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu:
Helio emphasized the use of leverage and timing over strength and speed. To prove this new system, he openly challenged reputable martial artists in Brazil. He fought 18 times against the best Brazilian fighters and holds the longest uninterrupted World Championship in history. The icon of a family man and the symbol of courage and discipline, he inspired people everywhere to live a healthy life style. Considered a modern-day hero, Gracie gained international fame for sharing his art with the world and as the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
A dedicated family man who exemplified a healthy life-style he was the epitome of courage, discipline, determination, and an inspiration to people everywhere. A modern-day legend, Helio Gracie gained international acclaim for his dedication to the dissemination of the art and is recognized as the creator of Gracie/Jiu-Jitsu. To distinguish the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the Japanese system.

GJJ Basics:
Brazilian Martial Arts gained more fame when Royce Gracie won as the ultimate fighting champion by using GJJ basics. The techniques he used showcased the step-by-step moves on how to overcome a much larger opponent by utilizing basic Jiu-Jitsu Footsweep Technique, Cross Choke and Arms Triangle Choke in guard position, Basic Jiu-Jitsu Stance and lots of others moves.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments:
The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship is the most prestigious world organizer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments. The 2012 Tournament will be held on June 9, 2012 but other details are still forthcoming. BJJ Tournaments are the best arena to show how much skills are acquired in this martial art and to mirror the tradition and purest of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Schools in San Diego
Just like other Gracie Jiu Jitsu schools, the Gracie Jiu Jitsu La Mesa Competition Team offers extensive trainings that prepare students for future Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments and of course – self defense. Gracie La Mesa instructors are high ranking black belts and fully capable of preparing students in self-defense or Bjj sport competitions. Not only do they prepare their students with proper technique, but physical conditioning as well.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Kimono or Gi
There is a specific type of clothing you will need to use when training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in San Diego. It is required for trainees/students to wear when learning because of rules and durability. Also considered to be similar to a judo gi, Gracie Jiu Jitsu or Brazilian jiu jitsu gi has tighter cuffs on the jacket and pants. In Brazil, the uniform is known as a Kimono.
There are six various positions one can learn from Gracie Jiu Jitsu training. Examples of the following positions are: Side control, full mount, guard, submission, joint locks, Chokes and takedowns. Moreover, the ranking system of the technique is signified by colored belts which are white, blue purple, brown and black for adults. Three main reasons why the Gracie Jiu Jitsu is practiced by many are: training for self defense, for public security, and for mixed martial arts as well.

How to Launder Your bjj kimonos

First Washing

The first time that you wash a gi is the most important. It can really be a make or break time because it really sets the standard for how you’ll treat your gi in the future. If you take care of it from the start (by following this guide), then you can be sure that it will last you a long time.

1. Wash in cold water. Never make use of hot water.
2.Hang or even line dry.*
3.Never use chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach will damage the materials of the gi.
**If you would like your uniform to shrink – It is usually advised that you purchase your uniform according to each brands’ personal sizing chart. When the uniform fits a little too large right out of the bag, a dryer -properly used- may be used make the uniform, “shrink to fit”.
To do this, we all recommend primary washing the gi in cold water after which placing it in the dryer with a lower setting. Check on the kimono every 5-10 minutes until it’s arrived at the desired size, after which hang dry for the duration.
**If you don’t want your gi to contract – In case you do not want your uniform to shrink, clean it on cold and hang dry it. Hang drying will even help the uniform be maintained longer. It’s suitable to dry your gi, just understand or know it fades away more rapidly using this method. The greater processes you put it through, the lesser its longevity.
Subsequent Washings
The directions from this point will continue as if your gi fits your body exactly as you want it to.
1. Wash in cool water.
2.By no means utilize Chlorine bleach.
3.Suspend or line dry.

Optional Suggestions for Blue/Black/Colored uniforms
. Prior to the first wash, saturate the gi from the a sink or tub with 2-3 glasses of of white vinegar as well as water. Permit it to saturate for twenty to thirty minutes, and then wash. This will help to set the colour within your gi as well as minimize its fading.
. On future washes, just use a color safe cleaning agent.
There’s a lot of debate concerning using white vinegar to help secure the colour because plenty of people reason that they will lock in the hue well enough whenever it is still in the factory. I can only confirm to my own dealings, but I have always employed white vinegar to secure the hue and I have never had any kind of color come off my gi and my personal gis keep on being brilliantly coloured in spite of years of training in them.
